Recent developments in the gyrokinetic modeling of drift-, Alfvén and Bernstein waves allow for the computation of mode-conversion in two dimensions. Theoretical predictions of global Alfvén eigenmode dampings, for example, are dominated by such processes and agree within 30% with the measurements from the Joint European Torus. Low frequency tokamak heating schemes involve a multitude of Alfvén or ion-hybrid resonances where mode-conversion is possible; the power absorption can however not correctly be determined from the resonance absorption of global fluid wavefields, so that a toroidal description of the conversion is required also for the modeling of the ion-cyclotron heating.
