Usability in Internet Banking -

Abstract This paper is the result of my Master's thesis in computer science conducted at SEB. The bank is currently developing a new e-banking application and wanted to compare it to similar products on the market. I therefore evaluated the usability in a couple of competing products and also looked at the functionality offered. I found that the functionality is quite similar in the applications, but the level of usability varies a lot. The main goal of the thesis was to recommend a method for future usability evaluations of competing products at SEB. To find the most appropriate one, I studied different kinds of evaluation methods. For my own assessment of the products I used heuristic evaluations and cognitive walkthroughs. I also tested some of the applications with real users. I would recommend SEB to use heuristic evaluations for their assessment. It is a method quite easy to use and that can be customised to suit this particular type of application. In the paper, I present the usability attributes I believe are especially important for Internet banking products. I have also suggested a list with criteria for a heuristic evaluation. |
