It is very important that you have a good background in Mathematics, in
particular Differential Equations (ordinary and partial) .
You must also have taken
courses in Numerical Methods and Computer Science. Furthermore you should
be experienced in solving scientific problems on computer and be familiar
with some programming languages (such as Pascal, Fortran, C, C++) and
scientific computing programs (such as Matlab, Mathematica, Maple, etc).
