Lecturer

This course is taught and managed by Johan Håstad, johanh@nada.kth.se. I have no specific office hours. Make an appointment by email or telephone 08-790 62 89.

Course material

There is a set of course notes sold at "Nadas studentexpediton". The cost is 50 Swedish crowns. People who need to get an electronic version of the course notes should contact the lecturer. These notes should be enough to follow the course. For a more detailed and polished account we recommend the book "Introduction to Algorithms" by Cormen, Leiserson and Rivest. For the interested student we also recommend a more advanced book, covering a slightly different set of problems. This book is "The Design and Analysis of Algorithms" by Kozen. Both these books are available at Teknologbutiken.

We have also compiled a set of notes on the lecture on data compression. This were taken by Jan Staschulat and edited by Johan.

Homework

The course requirement is to complete 3 homework sets. These will be handed out at the ends of weeks 45,47 and 49 respectively. They will be due two weeks later. All sets are now available.

Registration

To follow this course as a KTH undergraduate student you should have applied for the course and been accepted by your "fakultetskansli". If this is not the case we might have a problem to give you credit for the course. If you are unsure about your status you should contact the lecturer. My policy is to allow anybody interested to follow the course and get credit, and will to my best to achieve this.
